During a joint press conference in Berlin, Ms Erika Steinbach of the centre against expulsion, and Mr Tilman Zulch, of the threatened peoples' society expressed the need to establish a centre against expulsion in Berlin.

Cyprus was represented by Ms Sophie Phitidou, former Deputy Mayor of Famagusta, at the invitation of the threatened people's society.

In her speech, Ms Phitidou stressed, inter alia, that Turkey had been violating human rights in Cyprus for the last 28 years and referred to the problem of the refugees, the missing persons and the enclaved.

She also made reference to Cyprus' EU accession, which would constitute the common roof under which the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots would be able to coexist.
