[01] President Clerides' reply for a face-to-face meeting with Mr Denktash will be positive

The President's reply to Mr Denktash's third letter requesting a face-to- face meeting will be positive, "since it has been agreed that the meeting will take place within the framework of the UN Secretary General's good offices and that a UN representative will be present at the meeting," Cyprus Government Spokesman Mr Michalis Papapetrou stated yesterday.

Replying to questions during his daily press briefing the Government Spokesman said the meeting will take place within the first ten days of December, as Mr Denktash has suggested. "The President will suggest a specific date in his reply to Mr Denktash, which will be known this afternoon", he added.

Asked whether Mr Denktash has accepted, in his letter, the fact that the meeting will take place within the framework of the UN Secretary General's good offices, Mr Papapetrou said that the Turkish Cypriot leader has repeatedly expressed support to the UN process on Cyprus and has accepted President Clerides' suggestion for a Representative of the UN Secretary General to be present at meeting, since this process is established by a Security Council decision and it is necessary for the UN Representative to submit reports to the Secretary General and the Security Council on how the process is progressing.
