[01] USA supports UN led talks process on Cyprus

The USA supports the UN - led talks process on Cyprus and considers that this is the only way to achieve progress in the Cyprus problem.

This was stated yesterday by the US Ambassador to Cyprus, Mr Donald Bandler, after a meeting with the President of the Republic, Mr Glafcos Clerides. Mr Bandler said that they had a very good talk on the Cyprus problem and bilateral issues.

[02] Cyprus and Eritrea establish diplomatic relations

Cyprus and Eritrea have established diplomatic relations with a view to promote and strengthen ties of friendship and co-operation, on Monday 6 August in New York.

A joint communique, said cooperation is based on equality, mutual respect of each other's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity as well as non-interference in the internal affairs of each other.

The joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic ties was signed by the Charge d' Affaires of the Republic of Cyprus to the UN Dr George Kasoulides and the Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the UN Ambassador Ahmed Tahir Baduri.
