[01] Russia will continue to be actively involved in the search for a settlement.

The Russian Foreign Minister, Mr Igor Ivanov, stated yesterday that Russia supports a solution of the Cyprus problem, based on the United Nations resolutions on Cyprus.

In a statement to the press, after a meeting with President Glafcos Clerides, Mr Ivanov also underlined that his country will continue to play an active role in the search for a solution based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Russian Minister, who arrived in Cyprus for a two-day visit, expressed the hope that the strong ties and sincere friendship that exist between the two countries and their people would develop further. He also underlined Russia's interest in developing closer bilateral ties with Cyprus in many fields.

Finally, Mr Ivanof expressed the hope that he would be able to exchange visits with his Cypriot counterpart on a permanent basis in order to strengthen coordination, in relation to the Cyprus problem.

[02] Cyprus and Russia sign cooperation protocol

Cyprus and Russia signed yesterday a Program of Cultural and Scientific Cooperation for the period 2000-2002 and a Protocol for the Inventory of Bilateral Agreements.

Cyprus Foreign Minister Mr Ioannis Kasoulides and his Russian counterpart Mr Igor Ivanov, signed the agreements on behalf of their countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nicosia.

[03] New Cyprus High Commissioner to London

The High Commissioner of Cyprus to London, Mrs Myrna Cleopa, presented her credentials yesterday to Queen Elizabeth II.
