During the meeting, the two men exchanged views on the efforts for the resumption of intercommunal talks.Speaking to the press after the meeting, President Clerides said ''we examined when the invitations will be extended and what they will contain''. Government Spokesman Mr. Michalis Papapetrou said ''the Secretary General fully shares the view that UN Security Council Resolutions should be implemented on the |ne hand and on the other that a substantial dialogue should take place in order to lead to progress''. Mr Papapetrou also said that Mr Annan ''invests a lot in the forthcoming meeting of US President Bill Clinton with the Turkish premier Mr Bulent Ecevit next Tuesday''. He added that "immediately after this meeting he will reach a final decision. President Clerides also held meetings with Russian Foreign Minsiter Mr Igor Ivanov and Finland's Special Representative for Cyprus Mr Jaako Blomberg. In a brief statement to the press, the Russian Foreign Minister Mr Ivanov said that his country will play a most active role in efforts to solve the Cyprus Problem as it believes a settlement is both possible and necessary. [02] P>US State Department's Spokesman Mr James Rubin expressed last Friday his country's support to a resumption of talks on Cyprus without preconditions, under UN auspices.Mr Rubin added that "should negotiations without preconditions be established'', procedural issues like direct talks or proximity talks will be dealt with later on.
