[01] Special order of the USA House of Representatives to mark the 24th
anniversary of the Turkish invasion
The American government should continue efforts to put an end to the
occupation of part of Cyprus by Turkish troops and find a peaceful solution
to the Cyprus question.
During a special order of the USA House of Representatives, on Monday, 3rd
August, called on the initiative of Mr Michael Bilirakis of Florida,
representatives sent the above message and condemned the Turkish invasion
and continued occupation of part of Cyprus.
Representatives made also reference to the situation on the island, the
problems and human suffering caused by the invasion and occupation and the
continued violation of human rights by Turkey in Cyprus.
Other aspects of the behaviour of Turkey were also mentioned, the violation
of human rights in Turkey itself, "atrocities against Kurds", and
"aggression in the Aegean". Representatives called on Turkey to cease
violations, to act responsibly and seek peaceful solutions.
