[01] Joint seminar for Greek and Cypriot Press Officers

A joint 3-day seminar began in Athens on Monday (11.11.96) for Greek and Cyprus Press Officers in embassies around the world to exchange views and co-ordinate strategies and methods which can contribute to the promotion of national issues.

Both the Greek and Cyprus Foreign Ministers will be addressing the seminar which is being organised by the Co-ordinating Committee for the Promotion of National Issues.

During the opening meeting on Monday, Cyprus Minister of the Interior Dinos Michaelides read out a message from President Glafcos Clerides and in his speech noted the important role which well trained Press officers can play in disseminating information to mass media around the world and in giving out a clear picture of the issues Cyprus and Greece are most concerned with.

Greece's Minister for the Press and Mass Media Dimitris Repas read out a message from Prime Minister Costas Simitis and made the inaugural speech.

In his message Simitis said: "The promotion of our national issues abroad and the briefing of public opinion makers are a prerequisite for reaching the goals of our foreign policy".

The Greek and Cypriot Press Officers will also be addressed by Greek Minister of National Defence Akis Tsohatzopoulos, the Deputy Foreign Minister Christos Rozakis, the Cyprus Government Spokesman Yiannakis Cassoulides and a number of diplomats and academics.
