[01] New Supreme Court President and Judge sworn in
New President of the Supreme Court Demetris Hadjichambis and new Judge
Antonis Liatsos were sworn in on Wednesday at a ceremony at the
Presidential Palace, during which the President of the Republic Nicos
Anastasiades pointed out that ‘Cyprus is going through rough times
and society has many demands from all the state institutions, especially
independent justice.'
Speaking during the ceremony, President Anastasiades said the government,
as promised in his pre-election programme, was proceeding with reforms in
the judicial system and a bill had been prepared for the establishment
of an Administrative Court, which would relieve the Supreme Court of
trying administrative differences.
President Anastasiades also referred to the priority given by the
government to the ‘innovative reform' of e-justice, which would enable
filing cases and following their course online, and thus cut down on
bureaucracy and free staff for other work.
