[01] Excavations continued in 2013 at Ayia Varvara-Asprokremmos site

The excavations were conducted from the end of March to mid-June 2013 under the direction of Dr Carole McCartney on behalf of the Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus working in partnership with Cornell University and the University of Toronto.

The site, currently dated by radio-carbon to between c. 8800-8600 BC cal., marks the initiation of the Neolithic period on Cyprus at a time when the transition from hunting to farming economies was beginning throughout the Middle East. Taking the Neolithic Revolution into the Mediterranean zone, the occupants of Ayia Varvara-Asprokremnos carried cultural traditions and intensive resource procurement and manufacturing activity to the island some 11,000 years before present.

[02] Capital controls to be lifted first months of 2014

This was said by Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades.

The Minister was answering questions during a speech he delivered at a Conference on professional services organized in Nicosia.

[03] Bill for Deputy Ministries presented before Parliament

The Deputy Ministers will cover the areas of merchant shipping, development and the EU.

They will have the power allocated to them by the competent Minister; they will not participate in the Council of Ministers. The Minister will not lose the power allocated to the Deputy Minister.
