    Four icons looted from the church of Christ Antiphonitis in the occupied village of Kalograia have been handed over from the Netherlands to the Republic of Cyprus.

    A Deed of Transfer to the Republic of Cyprus was signed during a ceremony at the Dutch Ministry of Education between Cypriot Ambassador in The Hague Kyriacos Kouros and Dutch Director General of Culture and Media Marjan Hammersma, an official press release says.

    The case relates to the icons of Saint Peter, Saint John, Saint Mark and Saint Paul, which date approximately to the 16th century.

    [02] Minister of Communications continues contacts in Athens

    The Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos, in the context of a working visit to Athens, had on Wednesday separate meetings with Greece's Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and the Greek Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Michalis Chrysohoides.

    Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, in particular the situation in Syria and Egypt, the Cyprus issue, as well as issues concerning the impact of the economic crisis on

    Greece and Cyprus were discussed at the meeting with the Minister of National Defence, an official press release said.

    Preparations of the Greek Presidency of the EU Council, cooperation between the two ministries in the fields of aviation, raising funds from the new EU Financial Framework, the private and public sector joint venture in infrastructure and transport, as well as issues concerning telecommunications were discussed at the meeting with the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks.

    [03] Cyprus adjustment programme on track, amid considerable uncertainty, EC says

    The Cypriot adjustment programme is on track but short-run economic outlook remains difficult and subject to considerable uncertainty, a report by the European Commission reads.

    The EC published today the report on its first review of the programme implementation last July.

    "Staff concluded that Cyprus` economic adjustment programme is on track," the report says, noting that "the authorities have taken decisive steps to stabilise the financial sector and have been gradually relaxing deposit restrictions."

    [04] Russia supports a proposal to open Varosha

    Russia supports a proposal for opening the currently fenced-off town of Varosha, in Famagusta, which would benefit both sides on the island and facilitate the process of resolving the Cyprus problem, the Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Stanislav V. Osadchiy has said.

    Osadchiy was speaking to the press following his meeting held here today with the Secretary General of the opposition leftwing AKEL Party Andros Kyprianou.

    Asked if a possible opening of Varosha would be good for the solution process of the Cyprus problem, Russian Ambassador said that his country supports anything put on the negotiating table which is acceptable for both sides.

    [05] Government regrets delay in approval of BoC Board

    Deputy Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos has expressed the government`s regret over the delay by the Central Bank of Cyprus in approving the members of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus.

    Papadopoulos said the government shared "the discomfort of the past days due to the fact that we had thought that with the conclusion of the General Meeting of the new shareholders of the Bank of Cyprus, the bank would look ahead to address the major problems, restore its credibility and become once again the bank that will be used as the steam engine for the Cypriot economy."

    "We note with regret the delay in approving the members of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus," Papadopoulos said.
