  • [01] Cypriot enterprises lag behind with regard to E-commerce

Cypriot enterprises are still lagging behind with regard to E-Commerce, a survey by the Statistical Service published today shows.

According to the annual survey "Information and Communication Technologies Usage and E-Commerce in Enterprises 2012", carried out by Cyprus Statistical Service, only 8.4% of the enterprises covered in the survey said they accepted orders through the internet, and 18.6% of the enterprises placed orders via the internet.

The survey covered 1,431 enterprises with 10 or more employees in specific categories of economic activity. With a reference period of January 2102, the data were collected with personal interviews and covered the southern government controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus (the northern part is occupied by Turkish troops).

[02] Palestinian Mission calls on UN members to support its bid

The Palestinian Diplomatic Mission in Cyprus has called on all UN member states to support the Palestinian bid at the UN on Thursday to upgrade its status to a non-member observer state.

According to a Palestinian Mission declaration, issued here on Thursday, "the Palestinian initiative constitutes a peaceful, political step, in continuation of the standing Palestinian application for full membership at the United Nations that seeks to end occupation and realize the establishment of the State of Palestine, not at delegitimizing or isolating Israel".

"It is consistent with the internationally endorsed goal of the peace process, whereas recognition of the State of Palestine is the inalienable right of the Palestinians and a prerequisite for the realization of the two-state solution", the press release adds.
