President Demetris Christofias has praised the medical advances in cardiology in Cyprus, saying that less Cypriots are now sent abroad for treatment. He noted that through excellent cooperation between the private and the public sector in the field of interventional and non-interventional cardiology, the number of patients who have been sent overseas for treatment has significantly decreased.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the 23rd International Meeting “Cardiology Today”, held in Limassol, President Christofias said cardiology meetings organized by the Cardiology Company of Cyprus are an important milestone in the medical field both in Cyprus and overseas.

He praised the high scientific level of the meeting with the participation of renowned cardiologists from Europe and the US. Cardiology in recent years has advanced in both the secondary and post-secondary levels and technological approaches and techniques have helped upgrade its effectiveness, President Christofias remarked.

Cyprus, he said, responded favorably to this call and through “an excellent cooperation between the private and public sector, we have managed to offer the Cypriot patient a complete spectrum of services in invasive and non-invasive/interventional cardiology. We have significantly reduced the number of heart cases sent overseas for treatment”.
