The Electricity Authority of Cyprus will be obtaining electricity from the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus, after a request submitted by President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Manthos Mavrommatis to the Turkish Cypriot electricity company, which was accepted and is covered by the Green Line Regulation.

Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou announced on Saturday that the request was submitted ``with the approval of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, after legal advice from the Law Office.``

He noted that this arrangement enhances the EAC effort to meet demands in electricity, helps the economy run smoothly and serves the households, adding that furthermore the EAC will be able to carry out maintenance works on existing power producing units.

Stephanou said efforts to strengthen Cyprus` power producing capacity were continuing.
