[01] CYPRUS TALKS - LEADERS - MEETING

In statements after a meeting of the two leaders here today, in the framework of UN-led direct negotiations aiming at a settlement of the Cyprus problem, UN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim said the two leaders ``continued their exchange of views in a positive climate mainly focused on the police issue. They also discussed external relations and the forthcoming meeting that they will have with the Secretary-General in Geneva.``

``The leaders authorized their representatives to continue the discussion on Saturday with a view to concluding on this. The representatives will meet at 10:30 on Saturday morning. The outcome of the meeting on Saturday will be subject to the approval of the leaders,`` Buttenheim concluded.

[02] OMIROU - GREECE

Omirou who is paying a working visit to Greece, was received by the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias.

Speaking during the meeting, Omirou expressed the Cypriot House` solidarity, noting ``we are by your side, we think of you and of course we stand ready to support in any way the effort to resolve the problems and we are confident that Hellenism can face crises, can face problems.``

On his part, Papoulias replied that he hopes for ``a fair, stable and viable solution to our great problem,`` adding that the Greek financial problems are continuously occupying the Greek leadership.

[03] CYPRUS - DIGITAL ERA

He said that digital technology provides flexibility to providers and the benefits over analogue include excellent picture and sound quality, use of the Electronic Program Guide [EPG] that provides the viewer with programme information such as titles, start and finish times, program duration/ description and better signal reception (compared to analogue reception).

Neofytos Epaminondas, Director of the Cyprus Radio and Television Authority, told CNA that as of now, the only station that will not be able to broadcast tomorrow, is Plus TV, explaining that the application the station had handed in was incomplete, and therefore the Authority required additional information which will be assessed over a board meeting next Wednesday.

He clarified that this does not mean that the station will close down, however there will be no transmission for a few days. He also said that two other stations, although they were provided with license, they did not pay the required fee, underlining that this means they also dont have the appropriate license.

[04] TOURISM - REVENUE

According to the results of the Passenger Survey, for the period January-May 2011 revenue from tourism is estimated at 456.9 million euros compared to 383.0 million euros in the corresponding period of 2010, recording an increase of 19,3%.

During the respective period of 2009, revenue from tourism reached 390.4 million euros, and in the respective period of 2008 it reached 442.3 million euros.

In April 2011, revenue from tourism increased by 53.5%, in March by 1.3%, in February by 8.8% and in January by just 0.4%, compared to the respective months of 2010.
