[01] CYPRUS YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES
Nine Cypriot athletes will represent Cyprus in the 1st Youth Olympic
Games, taking place in Singapore from August 14 until the 26th.
President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, Ouranios Ioannides,
addressing a press conference at the Olympic House in Nicosia here
Monday, said that the goal of the games is to provide incentives for
young people to engage in sports
A total of 3,600 young athletes between 14 and 18 years of age will
take part in the Games while 26 sports and culture & education
programmes are scheduled, according to the Youth Olympic Games
website.
The nine Cypriot athletes will participate in swimming, cycling,
gymnastics and athletics. In statements, they said they will do their
best during the events.
