[01] BULGARIA - CYPRUS PROBLEMBulgarian President Georgi Parvanov said his country will continue to observe a principled position regarding the respect of Cyprus` independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.Parvanov comments were made during a private meeting with Cyprus` new Ambassador to Bulgaria Stavros Amvrosiou, following the presentation of credentials ceremony. During the meeting, the Bulgarian President thanked Amvrosiou for Cyprus support to Bulgaria within the EU and the cooperation of the two countries in various international organizations. He also said there are many prospects for further cooperation in the fields of economy and culture. On his part, Amvrosiou briefed Parvanov on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and expressed his gratitude for the principled position observed by Bulgaria, for the respect of Cyprus` independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Parvanov replied that in the future Bulgaria will continue to observe the same principled position, adding he is aware of the ``titanic efforts,`` the Cypriot President Demetris Christofias is exerting for the finding of a solution to the Cyprus problem. [02] EP - CMP PROJECT - BUDGETBudget Committee of the European Parliament has approved, by a huge majority, the amount of three million euro as a support towards the UN Committee on the Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) for 2010, according to Ioannis Kasoulidess press ofiice.According to a press release, Kasoulides, Democratic Rallys (DISY) Member of the European Parliament and the German MEP Reimer Boege have deposited the amended proposal after a series of meetings they hold during summer with the members of the CMP. During those meetings, Kasoulides and Boege have realized that CMP needs support, in terms of personnel and of equipment in order to develop the anthropological laboratory and to speed up the process of identifications of the remains of missing persons in Cyprus. According to the press release, this has been the greatest financial aid towards the CMP so far. In 2008, the EU offered to CMP 1.5 million euro and 2 million in 2009. [03] HOUSE PRESIDENT - AEOLIAN PARKClimate change is the biggest threat in the world and political leaders, acting with the private sector, have to react immediately in order to tackle the problem, House President Marios Garoyian has stressed.Addressing the ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the first aeolian park in Cyprus, Garoyian said that this park places Cyprus on the map of countries which produce energy by exploiting the wind. It is not a simple fact, but it is a historic day that marks the future of Cyprus towards green development, he noted. Garoyian referred to the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December, saying that crucial decisions for the future of the worlds climate are expected to be reached. He also said that the European Union has set out binding targets for the reduction of CO2 emissions by 60-80% until the year 2050. [04] CNA PHOTOGRAPHER - PRIZECNA photographer Katia Christodoulou won second prize in the National Photo Competition titled ``Photographers in the fight against Poverty``, as well as three commendations, for photographs she entered for the competition.The competition was organised by the European Institute of Cyprus and the Cyprus Photographic Society as a part of a public awareness campaign on International Development Aid and the Millennium Development Goals implemented within the context of a European co-financed project, titled ``Media Engagement in Development Issues and Promotion`` (MEDIP). The first three winning entries will receive the sum of 1000 EUR each, to be given in the form of cash, which has been charitably donated by the Shacolas Group. A photo exhibition presenting a collection of photographs form the national competition will be organised on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is on October 17, and the European Development Days, from October 22 to 24.
