    [03] CYPRIOT MP PACE EDUCATION

The Council of Europe, as a defender of human rights, has an important role in the dissemination of cultural education, as well as the preservation and support of cultural diversity in Europe, said Cypriot MP Fidias Sarikas, speaking at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) during its session about cultural education.

Sarikas pointed out that art and culture can enrich education and can contribute, through many forms of creative expression, to personal spiritual development and social cohesion.

He added that cultural education should be included in other educational sectors and activities, so that both art and culture become accessible and tangible concepts for younger generations.

Sarikas also said that the promotion of institutions and regulations relating to cultural education can greatly help in addressing various social problems such as racism, xenophobia, discrimination based on ethnic origin, social marginalization, school failure or even violence in schools.
