Cyprus has identified its first case of the H1N1 flu virus, Health minister Christos Patsalides has stated.

He told reporters that we have confirmed the first case of the new flu virus, a female foreigner, permanent resident of Cyprus", Patsalides said.

The woman had arrived from the US this week.

The minister also said that a second person, who was on the same aircraft with the woman, has shown symptoms and is under observation.

Patsalides remarked the case is considered imported and an isolated and the womans condition is quite satisfactory.

Other passengers who traveled with the woman to Cyprus had been located and were receiving some preventative treatment, Patsalides said.
