The Municipality is ready to open the crossing point within five days, once the political decision has been taken, she said. The opening of the crossing point, at one of the oldest and most commercial streets of the capital, was the topic of discussion at Wednesdays meeting of technical groups from the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities.``At the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to proceed with the opening of a crossing point,`` to and from the northern Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus, Mavrou said. The decision, however, is up to the leaders of the two communities, she pointed out. As far as the Municipality is concerned, the Mayor explained, there are no problems, noting that many issues relating to the opening of a crossing point have already been dealt with. She noted that after the opening of the crossing point in Ledra street restoration work on the nearby buildings will be carried out without affecting the safe passage of pedestrians. This work, she said, will take about three months to be completed. Cyprus News Agency: News in English Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
