[01] GREEK PM - EUAnkara must meet its European obligations, Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has stressed, noting that Athens anticipates with great interest the Commission progress report on Turkey, due in October.Asked during a press conference at the 71st Thessaloniki International Fair whether Greece would veto Turkeys EU course, if Ankara continues to refuse to open its ports to Cypriot ships, the Greek PM said: We support Turkey`s European direction, with a very clear rationale. A Turkey, which walks along the European path, in other words adopts even gradually regulations, criteria and behaviour of a European state, is a Turkey that benefits everybody: its citizens and certainly its neigbours. The Greek Premier stressed that the obligations must be met. There is no other way. There has never been an exception for any candidate country," he added. Turkey has steadfastly refused to open its air space and ports to Cypriot aircraft and vessels, claiming this would happen once the so-called isolation of the Turkish Cypriots in Turkish occupied Cyprus is lifted. Cyprus has made it clear that it will not accept any arrangement in exchange for Ankara`s compliance with its obligations to Brussels, stressing that Turkey has made a commitment to the EU to meet its obligations.
