  • [01] CYPRIOT PRESIDENT - VIENNA - BRIEF CONTACTS

Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos had a short conversation in Vienna with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, on the sidelines of the European Union-Latin America-Caribbean summit.

The conversation, which lasted for about ten minutes, took place after the plenary of the summit, which was addressed by Annan, among others.

Earlier, President Papadopoulos held a brief meeting with Austrian Prime Minister Wolfgang Schussel, who is currently presiding over the EU.

On the sidelines of the summit, Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to discuss the economic and tourism relations of the two countries.

According to sources, during the 45-minute meeting, Karamanlis and Erdogan agreed to keep regular contacts with a view to enhance bilateral relations.

Greek government sources said that Turkey is interested in showing the Europeans that it is doing everything possible to meet its European obligations.

Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Dora Bakoyianni will be flying to Turkey in June for a conference of Greek and Turkish journalists. During her stay, she will be meeting with her Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul.
