Cyprus and US reach agreement on PSI

Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) -- The Cyprus Government and the United States have concluded an agreement on the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI).

According to a press release issued by the US Embassy in Nicosia the two sides have successfully concluded negotiations on the text of a bilateral agreement within the framework of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), ''establishing procedures and safeguards for shipboarding operations on the high-seas aimed at combating the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction''.

Cypriot President congratulates Iraqi counterpart on election

Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) -- Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos has sent a message of congratulations to new President of Iraq Jalal Talabani on his election.

''I have the honour to extend to you my warmest congratulations on your historic election by the Transitional National Assembly of Iraq as President of Iraq, and my best wishes for every success in the performance of your high duties'', President Papadopoulos notes in his message to Talabani.
