Asked during yesterdays briefing whether he considered illegal the visit on Thursday to the Turkish occupied north of the island by a delegation of business people, who represented American companies in Turkey and were accompanied by the commercial attache of the American embassy in Ankara, Boucher replied it was a normal business visit. [03] Cyprus President: We are looking into potential to start talks1545:CYPPRESS:03Cyprus President: We are looking into potential to start talks Larnaca, Feb 19 (CNA) Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has said today that the position of the Greek Cypriot side is firm, it is investigating possibilities to start negotiations for a Cyprus settlement. Speaking on his return from Malta where he paid a three-day state visit, President Papadopoulos expressed the view that it would not be right to submit a detailed list on the changes which the Greek Cypriot side is pursuing to the Annan Plan so that third parties would criticize the Greek Cypriot side for not wanting talks, thus leading to the 2003 scenario. Earlier this month UN Secretary General Kofi Annan had urged President Papadopoulos to ''put his views on paper'' as regards the changes he wants to his settlement plan on Cyprus, adding that ''a detailed list of his objections would help. [04] Muradov: Russia’s position on Cyprus remains unchanged1605:CYPPRESS:04Muradov: Russias position on Cyprus remains unchanged by Costas Stavrinos Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA) The position of Russia on Cyprus remains a position of principles, based on UN Security Council resolutions and this position will not change, Georgi Muradov, chief of Moscow's International Relations Department told CNA here Saturday. Muradov, a former ambassador of Russia to Cyprus said his country will not change from this position of principle and remains firmly in favour of the Cyprus Republics territorial integrity and unity. It also respects all decisions that have taken place in the course of efforts to solve the Cyprus problem. Commenting on efforts to secure recognition of the illegal regime in the Turkish occupied north of the island, Muradov said Russia fully respects UN Security Council decisions on Cyprus. If the decisions say that the illegal regime is not recognised, then it is not recognised, the former ambassador told CNA adding we follow this line. Full respect to UN positions. Muradov is paying a visit to Cyprus where last night he presented Nicosia Mayor Michalakis Zambellas and former Cyprus Ambassador in Moscow Bambos Ioannides honourary medals for their contribution in developing relations between the two countries and bolstering friendship between Russia and Cyprus.
