The seat of AKEL deputy Adamos Adamou will be taken by Stella Demetriou Mishaouli, while Democratic Rally Panagiotis Demetrious seat will be given to Kate Clerides, (a former deputy and daughter of former Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides). The seat of Marios Matsakis of the Democratic Party will be given to Athena Kyriakidou. [04] * European Elections - Ioannis Kasoulides - Biography0025:CYPPRESS:04European Elections Ioannis Kasoulides Biography Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) Ioannis Kasoulides, of the Democratic Rally party, was elected member of the European Parliament in today's euro-elections in Cyprus. Kasoulides, who served as Foreign Minister and Spokesman in the Glafcos Clerides government, was born in Nicosia on 10 August 1948. He studied medicine at Lyon University in France and specialised in geriatrics in London. He worked in the private sector after returning to Cyprus. The founder and first chairman of the Federation of Cypriot Students Union in France, he was also one of the leading officials of the rigthwing Democratic Rally party. He served at various party posts and was elected deputy in 1991. In March 1993 he undertook the post of Government Spokesman and resigned from Parliament and retained his position until April 1997 when he was appointed Foreign Minister until 28 February 2003. As Minister, Kasoulides led the diplomatic service during efforts for the islands accession to the Europeran Union and was mainly responsible for the political part of the negotiations. [05] * European Elections - Adamos Adamou - Biography0030:CYPPRESS:05European Elections Adamos Adamou - Biography Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) -- Leftwing AKEL Deputy Adamos Adamou was elected here Sunday member of the European Parliament. Born in Limassol in 1950, he studied Medicine in Athens and later specialised in Pathology and Oncology. He was deputy director of the Oncology Department of the Nicosia General Hospital and an advisor and pathologist oncologist at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre and currently at the private medical centre Prevention. He also worked with university hospitals in the UK and Israel. He is a member of a number of medical council and organisations, including member of the Board of the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society and Cyprus representative at the EU Pathologists Oncologists. He has contributed significantly in developing programmes for the early diagnose and prevention of cancer in Cyprus, especially in the field of breast and cervical cancer and has received numerous awards in Cyprus and Greece. [06] * European Elections - Panagiotis Demetriou - Biography0035:CYPPRESS:06European Elections Panagiotis Demetriou - Biography Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) -- Panagiotis Demetriou, a deputy of the island's Democratic Rally, was elected today member of the European Parliament. He was born in Strogylos, Famagusta, under Turkish occupation since 1974. He studied Pedagogics (Cyprus Teachers College) and Law (Middle Temple Inn of Court in London) (Barrister-at-Law). He took part in the National Liberation Struggle of EOKA (1955-1959). From 1960 to 1964 he worked as a primary school teacher and was the general secretary of the Pancyprian Greek Teachers Organisation (POED). He also worked as a journalist and magazine publisher. He was a founding member of the Eniaion party (1969), organising secretary and assistant general secretary. He is also a founding member of the Democratic Rally Party. As an advisor to the President of the party he participated in the Political Bureau. For many years he was the head of the DISYs electoral campaigns. In addition, he was the partys General Organising Secretary, Second Vice-President and First Vice-President. Since 1997 he is Deputy President of the Democratic Rally Party. At the parliamentary elections on 5th July 1970 he was elected Member of the House of Representatives standing as an Eniaion (Unified Party) candidate in the Nicosia constituency. He was again elected Member of the House at the parliamentary elections on 26 May 1996 standing as a Democratic Rally Party (DISY) candidate and he was reelected at the subsequent parliamentary elections on 27 May 2001. He served as parliamentary spokesman of the Democratic Rally Party. He is a member of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Selection and chairman of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs since 1996. He is also a member of the committees on European Affairs and on Financial and Budgetary Affairs. He was the leader of the delegation of the House to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) (1997-February 2002).
