    Cyprus government expresses gratitude to UN peacekeeping force

    United Nations, Oct 20 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has expressed its gratitude to the UN, UNFICYP and its personnel as well as to the contributing countries for the work done by the peacekeeping operation in Cyprus.

    Speaking before the UN General Assembly Special Political Committee Cyprus' Permanent Representative to the UN Andreas Mavroyiannis reiterated that a just and viable solution in Cyprus in accordance with UN resolutions, international law and the acquis communautaire has been delayed far too long and should be addressed both as a matter of urgency and a matter of principle.

    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Oct 20 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 21/10/2003 to 22/10/2003

    The weather will be fine, with medium and high cloud, while over night local mist patches and low cloud are likely. Wind will be overnight variable mainly northwest light, 2 to 3 bf. During day the wind will be northeast to southeast gentle, 3 bf gradually veering by afternoon to southwest to west, gentle to moderate, 3 to 4 bf. The state of sea will be smooth to slight over night, and slight during day time. The temperature will range from 12 degrees over the mountains, to 16 degrees inland and to 18 over the coastal areas.

    The maximum temperature will range from 24 over the mountains, to 28 over the western and northern coastal areas, to 29 over the eastern and southern coastal areas and to 31 degrees inland.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 23/10/2003 to 24/10/2003

    On Thursday and Friday the weather will be fine. The temperature is expected to note a small further increase.

    Limassol, Oct 20 (CNA) --- Cyprus Foreign Minister Giorgos Iacovou has said that the occupation regime in northern Cyprus has in the past few weeks intensified its illegal actions and is illegally granting Turkish settlers the so-called citizenship of the regime and the right to ''vote'' to December's ''parliamentary elections''.
