    Iacovou meets Hastert and Senate members

    Washington, Jun 13 (CNA) Foreign Minister George Iacovou has informed members of the US House of Representatives that Cypriot companies are in a position to contribute to efforts for the reconstruction of Iraq.

    The minister also said that Cyprus already offers important humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people.

    US interest in Cyprus settlement will not diminish

    Athens, Jun 13 (CNA) US State Department Special Coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston said in Athens on Thursday after meeting Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs George Papandreou, that a solution to the Cyprus problem was not only possible but also necessary before December 2003.

    Weston's trip to Athens and then Cyprus indicates that ''for the US, the EU and the UN, the Cyprus problem has not closed'', despite the collapse of peace talks at The Hague, Papandreou said.

    Key official interest rates remain unchanged

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) - Cyprus Central Bank Governor Christodoulos Christodoulou announced today that the Monetary Policy Committee has decided that the key official interest rates would remain unchanged.

    Christodoulou said the Committee, in its decision, took into consideration Cyprus' inflation rate compared to the respective European rate, as well as the expected increase of the public deficit in the year 2003.

    Larnaca, Jun 13 (CNA) - US State Department Special Coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston said today that many provisions in the Annan plan should change, given the fact that Cyprus has in the meantime signed the Accession Treaty to the EU and given the positive reaction of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots after the easing of Turkish occupation regime restrictions on free movement.

    Cypriot delegates to EU Convention satisfied with results

    Brussels, Jun 13 (CNA) - The representatives of Cyprus at the European Convention have expressed satisfaction over the outcome of its deliberations that ended here today by finalising its draft future European constitution, to be presented to the EU Council in Thessaloniki next week.

    The MP's representing the Cyprus Republic at the Convention are Eleni Mavrou (AKEL), Panayiotis Demetriou (Democratic Rally), and substitutes Marios Matsakis (Democratic Party) and Androulla Vasiliou (United Democrats), and the representative of the Cyprus government to the Convention Ambassador Michalis Attalides.
