    Flow to and from occupied areas

    Nicosia, May 6 (CNA)-- As the flow to and from the occupied areas continues, thousands of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots gather at designated check points along the ceasefire line to cross into the other side of the divide.

    By midnight a total of 2481 Turkish Cypriots had crossed into the government-controlled areas of the Republic after the easing of restrictions on free movement of Cypriots.

    Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) The government has reiterated a proposal to Turkey to open air corridors used by civil aviation, which Ankara closed arbitrarily after its invasion of the island in the summer of 1974.

    Greek and Turkish Cypriots continue to cross divide

    Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - A total of 1,176 Turkish Cypriots had crossed into the government-controlled areas of the Republic by 12:00 local time today (09:00 GMT).

    According to a Police press release, 2,810 Greek Cypriots had crossed into the Turkish occupied areas by the same time today.

    Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - The Pancyprian Committee of Relatives of Missing Persons calls on the Greek presidency of the European Union to place before the EU the humanitarian issue of missing persons, in order to exert pressure on Turkey, which aspires to become a member of the block, and to stress that the pending for 29 years issue is a flagrant violation of human rights.

    Government promotes bill to amend vehicle regulations

    Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - The Ministry of Communications and Works has submitted to the House of Representatives a bill amending vehicle regulations, to be passed urgently, so as to make possible the movement of Turkish Cypriot motorists in the government-controlled areas of the Republic.

    The draft law, which was discussed this morning at the House Communications Committee, provides for the issuing of temporary driving licenses to Turkish Cypriots and temporary road tax for their vehicles.

    Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) -- As Turkish Cypriot journalist Sener Levent, persecuted by the Turkish Cypriot puppet regime, was again today denied access to the government controlled areas, his Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot colleagues marched from Ledra Palace check point into the UN-controlled buffer zone to express their solidarity with him and condemn the continuing inhuman behaviour by Ankara and the ocupation regime towards Levent.

    Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - Head of the European Commission delegation in Nicosia, Adriaan Van der Meer, said today that the EU welcomes the easing of restrictions on the free movement of persons and the Cypriot government's measures to support the Turkish Cypriots but noted that these developments could not substitute a comprehensive settlement.

    Speaking after a meeting with President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos, Van der Meer said the EU supports the resumption of talks to solve the Cyprus problem under UN auspices.
