G/C platform demands solution and reunification now

Nicosia, Feb 2 (CNA) -- The Greek Cypriot platform ''Solution - Reunification Now'' expressed its support to an immediate settlement of the Cyprus problem, based on a UN plan, and the accession of a federal Cyprus to the EU.

It also called on international organisations involved in the efforts for a Cyprus settlement, such as the UN and the EU, to continue and intensify their efforts, without getting disappointed by the difficulties in reaching a settlement.

The platform organized here yesterday a gathering attended by around 500 Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, who live in the island's government controlled areas, to express its demand for solution and reunification of the island now.

Clerides: I do not expect a solution by February 28

Larnaca, Feb 2 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said today he was not expecting the Cyprus problem to be solved within the timeframe set out by the UN, which is February 28, 2003, but reiterated his belief that 2003 will be a year of historic developments for the Cyprus problem.

Turkish Cypriots honour President Clerides

Limassol, Feb 2 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said here today, speaking before 150 Turkish Cypriots living in the government controlled areas of the island, ''we have to forget the conflicts of the past, within the EU, and together build the future of our children and grandchildren.''

Speaking at a gathering, organised by the T/C association ''Cyprus belongs to Cypriots'', to honour him, Cyprus President assured that he will continue to do his utmost for the reunification of the island and the peaceful settlement of the Cyprus problem.

''My efforts are focused in achieving a peaceful reconciliation and reunification,'' he added.
