EU Foreign Ministers discuss enlargement process

Nicosia, Aug 30 (CNA) The list of candidate states which will enter the final stage of negotiations for accession to the European Union (EU) will be announced during the extraordinary European Council in Brussels around the end of October, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said today.

Speaking to journalists at the end of a working lunch at Haelsingor, Denmark, where an informal EU Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting is being held, Papandreou said the 15 ministers talked about the 10 candidate states which will progress towards accession at the EU Summit in Copenhagen in December.

He said the sole issue of discussion was enlargement and it was stressed that the European Commission will submit recommendations for each candidate state on October 16.
