    Former President of Cyprus Spyros Kyprianou is hospitalised

    Nicosia, Mar 11 (CNA) -- Former President of Cyprus Spyros Kyprianou has been admitted to the Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia. His condition is described as "critical".

    A press release issued here today by the Oncology Centre said that all necessary measures to support his health "are being taken and the general situation of his health remain critical."

    Journalists in the Mediterranean hope for speedy Cyprus solution

    Nicosia, Mar 11 (CNA) -- Journalists, representing 15 Mediterranean countries, who have met here over the weekend, expressed hope the UN-led peace talks will lead as soon as possible to an agreement on the basis of UN resolutions and European Union decisions.

    A declaration, adopted by 37 media syndicates, condemned the unacceptable persecution of a Turkish Cypriot daily and its staff by the Turkish Cypriot occupation regime, in the island's northern areas.

    Nicosia, Mar 11 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 12/03/2002 to 13/03/2002

    The weather on Tuesday will be unstable with some local showers. The wind will prevail west to northwest gentle 3 to 4 bf and the sea will be slight to moderate.

    The maximum temperature will note a fall ranging from 14 degrees over the highest peaks of Troodos to 22 degrees over inland and the coastal areas.

    The unstable weather will continue also overnight and during Wednesday. The wind will be west to northwest gentle 3 to 4 and the sea will be slight to moderate.

    The minimum temperature will range from 5 degrees over the highest peaks of Troodos to 8 degrees inland and the coastal areas and the maximum will range form 12 to 19 degrees.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 14/03/2002 to 15/03/2002

    Some isolated showers are expected also on Thursday while on Friday the weather will be fine. The temperature will note any significant change.

    President Clerides to paticipate in Barcelona EU Council

    Nicosia, Mar 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides leaves on 14 March for Spain to take part in the Barcelona European Council to be held between 15 and 16 March, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou announced here today.

    This is the first time ever the EU has invited the candidate countries to participate in its deliberations.
