    [01] Cyprus - EPP-ED - Resolution

Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- The bureau of the European People's Party and the European Democrats (EPP-ED) has called on the European Union to become more involved in the efforts to find a settlement in Cyprus and said the absence of a solution on the island is not a precondition to the country's accession.

The bureau also said peace negotiations should take place in the accepted framework for the solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation, as provided by UN resolutions, with one international personality and one sovereign and indissoluble state.

Cyprus - AKEL - Bicommunal Festival Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- Only a federal solution in Cyprus could ensure the political and economical equality of the two communities and lead to the reunification of the island, General Secretary of left-wing AKEL party Dimitris Christofias said here today.

Christofias was speaking at a bicommunal festival organised by AKEL's youth branch EDON and the youth organisation of the Turkish Cypriot Republican Turkish Party (RTP) at the Ledra Palace hotel, in the UN-controlled buffer zone, aiming to promote rapprochement between the island's two communities.
