US President - Cyprus report
Washington, Mar 7 (CNA) - US President George Bush has expressed his
country's commitment to "the UN effort to find a just and lasting
settlement to the Cyprus problem", in his first bimonthly report to
Congress on efforts towards a negotiated settlement of the Cyprus problem.
A cover letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and
the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations says the report
covers the period December 1, 2000 - January 31, 2001.

[02] US - Swedish Foreign Ministers - Cyprus question
Washington, Mar 7 (CNA) - The Cyprus question and the importance of a
settlement on the island was among issues raised at a meeting here
yesterday between the US and Swedish Foreign Ministers, Colin Power and
Anna Lindh.
Lindh, whose country is chairing the six-month European Union (EU) rotating
presidency since January, expressed the hope that those who can will exert
their influence on Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash so that he returns
to the UN- led Cyprus peace talks.
