    [01] Spokesman - US ideas - Clarifications

Nicosia, Jan 12(CNA) -- The government is to seek clarifications from Washington about ideas relating to the Cyprus question, said to have been submitted to the Turkish side, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today.

The spokesman said that no ideas or suggestions were submitted to the government during this week's visit to the island by US Presidential Emissary Alfred Moses, who has said in Ankara that he had put before the Turkish government a series of ideas for the resumption of the UN-led Cyprus proximity talks.

    [02] Cyprus - Doctors - Strike

Nicosia, Jan 12 (CNA) -- Doctors serving in the public sector have been staging since early morning a 24-hour strike to press on with their demands for a pay rise and the creation of more senior positions in their ranks.

As the strike unfolded, the Heath Ministry in cooperation with doctors in the private sector was making sure that no incidents or emergencies were left unattended. Outpatients at government hospitals were referred to private clinics or non government employed doctors for medical treatment.

[03] British envoy - Cyprus question - Press conference

Nicosia, Jan 12 (CNA) -- There is a chance of decisive progress towards a Cyprus settlement, British envoy Sir David Hannay said here today, stressing that it is in nobody's interest to interrupt, delay or frustrate the UN-led process.

Hannay, speaking at a press conference, said it would not be wise to set any deadlines or timetable to the peace talks at this stage and noted that the Cyprus problem is not a static issue as it is affected by other external factors.
