    [01] House of Representatives - State budget

    Nicosia, Jan 11 (CNA) - The House of Representatives, in a debate that dragged on well after midnight, passed the state budget for the year 2001, with right- wing ruling Democratic Rally, centre Democratic Party and the United Democrats voting for the budget, left-wing AKEL abstaining and the Movement of Social Democrats voting against. AKEL and the Social Democrats voted in favour of expenditure for defence and refugees.

    The 2001 budget provides for 2.417,0 million pounds in expenditure and 1.576,0 million in revenue, leaving a budget deficit of 841,0 million pounds (1 Cyprus pound is trading at about 1,6 US dollars). CNA/RG/RM/2001

    [02] President - British envoy

    Nicosia, Jan 11 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides has made it clear to Britain's envoy on Cyprus that he would not accept any change in the UN-led peace process nor would he consent to any attempt to appease Turkish Cypriot demands for recognition of his self-styled regime in the Turkish- occupied part of Cyprus.

    Speaking after today's meeting the Cypriot President had with Sir David Hannay, currently visiting the island, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said Britain's envoy believes that the UN process should continue as it is and that he would work in that direction.

    Íicosia, Jan 11 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 12/01/2001 to 13/01/2001

    The weather will be mainly fine with some patchy cloud. The wind will be light and at times moderate from southerly direction 3BF at times up to 4BF. The state of sea will be slight. The temperature will reach the 18C and will fall to 7C inland and to 9C to the coast.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 14/01/2001 to 15/01/2001

    The weather will continue mainly fine with temporal cloud. Risk of isolated showers on Monday afternoon. The temperature will increase.

    President Clerides - Ambassador of Cuba - Credentials

    Nicosia, Jan 11 (CNA) -- The Cuban government and people support and continue to support the just cause of Cyprus in finding a solution to the Cyprus question, Cuba's new Ambassadopr to Cyprus German Blanco Pujol said today, presenting his credentials to President Glafcos Clerides.

    Receiving the credentials President Clerides referred to the intransigent stance of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, who has stated that he will not attend the next round of UN-led proximity talks, scheduled to take place in Geneva at the end of January. CNA/RM/GP/2001

    Spokesman - Tziakourmas - Britain

    Nicosia, Jan 11 (CNA) - The Cyprus government continues to hold Britain responsible for the abduction and illegal detention of Greek Cypriot Panicos Tziakourmas in prisons in the Turkish-occupied part of the island, but also points out Turkey's responsibilities.

    Tziakourma's family handed over today a letter to Britains' special envoy on Cyprus, Sir David Hannay, demanding the immediate release of their beloved one. CNA/MM/ITS/RG/GP/2001
