[01] French Euro MP - Statement

Larnaca, Nov 28 (CNA) - The Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs at the French National Assembly Francois Loncle has said the European Union is ready with a specific programme to welcome new members as of 2003.

He also called on Turkey not to play the political game of "the empty chair" as he said, adding that he does not understand why the Turkish National Assembly did not attend the 10th Meeting of the President of the European Parliament with the Presidents of the parliaments of the countries participating in the enlargement process, held in Limassol, Cyprus. UCJ - "Avrupa" - Statement

Nicosia, Nov 28 (CNA) - The Union of Cyprus Journalists (UCJ) has deplored the arson attack against the premises where Turkish Cypriot daily newspaper "Avrupa" is printed, noting that the attack was part of the "exterminating campaign" of the Turkish occupation regime against freedom of expression.

The fresh attack occurred overnight November 26 to 27. A bomb was thrown at the office and the printing office of 'Avrupa' causing a fire which destroyed the main printing installations of the newspaper and extensively damaged its printing and other equipment.

[03] European Parliament rapporteur - Statement

Larnaca, Nov 28 (CNA) - If the Turkish Cypriot leader carries out his threats not to attend the next round of UN-led proximity talks, the UN should report this and make sure it apportions responsibility where it is due, Jacques Poos, European Parliament rapporteur for Cyprus' accession to the European Union, has said.

He also said non-participation of Rauf Denktash in the January round of proximity talks would create problems, sending at the same time the message that the framework for a solution already exists. CNA/ÌÁÍ/MM/RG/2000
