    [03] Kyprianou - Acting President

    Nicosia, May 5 (CNA) - Cyprus House of Representatives President, Spyros Kyprianou, has taken on duties as Acting President of the Republic this morning and until Sunday, due to the operation President Glafcos Clerides has undergone.

    President Clerides will be able to return to his duties on Monday from his room at the "Evangelistria" private clinic, in the capital Nicosia, where he is being treated after a polyp was removed from his large intestine. CNA/FZ/RG/MA/2000

    [04] Cyprus - Resolution - Commonwealth Parliamentary Assembly

    Nicosia, May 5 (CNA) - The members of the British Isles and the Mediterranean region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution yesterday on Cyprus, stressing their concern over the situation created by the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of the northern third of the island.

    During the 31st regional meeting of the Assembly held on the Isle of Man, the Jersey delegation submitted a draft resolution on Cyprus, which was unanimously adopted, while many MPs participating in the meeting expressed their support for Cyprus. CNA/RG/MA/2000

    [05] Foreign Minister - President's health - Talks

    Nicosia, May 5 (CNA) - Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, said today that foreign government envoys are concerned over a possible change of dates for the third round of proximity talks aimed at paving the way for a settlement in Cyprus, divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied the northern third of the island.

    He said that the international community is concerned over the situation created by the state of President Glafcos Clerides' health, who underwent surgery today to remove a polyp from his large intestine. CNA/FZ/RG/MA/2000

    [06] President Clerides - Second medical press release

    Nicosia, May 5 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides' post operation course is developing smoothly, his doctors said here this evening, adding that the first thing he did when he woke up was to thank them.

    A press release issued after a meeting of his doctors, read by the President's personal physician Agis Syrimis, says the President of the Republic communicates with his environment and replies to questions, after the surgery he underwent to remove a polyp from his large intestine.

    [07] President Clerides - Telegramme from Greek Premier

    Nicosia, May 5 (CNA) - Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis has wished the President of the Cyprus Republic Glafcos Clerides a speedy recovery from the operation he underwent today to remove a polyp from his large intestine.

    In a telegramme to President Clerides, Simitis expresses certainty they will meet soon "so that we can jointly assess the expected developments in this crucial phase the Cyprus problem is entering so that our common struggle will bear fruit".
