    [01] Cyprus - Bulgaria - Credentials

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) -- Ambassador Christodoulos Pashiardis presented his credentials to Bulgarian President Petar Stoyanov, as Cyprus' new ambassador to the country.

    Pashiardis, who is also Cyprus' ambassador to Greece, informed Stoyanov on the current situation on the Cyprus problem and developments in the Republic's accession to the European Union, (EU), an official statement said here Tuesday.

    [02] Government - US envoy - Contacts

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) -- The government expects the US Presidential Emissary to convince the Turkish side to return to the negotiating table without any preconditions with a view to find a comprehensive settlement, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has said.

    He also said that President Glafcos Clerides will wait until after tomorrow's working breakfast with the US envoy Alfred Moses to assess the situation.

    [03] Cyprus government - Pakistan

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government condemned the military coup in Pakistan and expressed the hope that legality will be restored in the country.

    Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou, commenting on the situation in Pakistan said Cyprus "notes the action and measures which the Commonwealth has undertaken regarding the new regime."

    [04] Cyprus - Symposium on Eastern Mediterranean and Beyond

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) -- The Research and Development Centre of Intercollege in Cyprus and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy are organising a symposium October 21-23 in Nicosia on "The New Geopolitical Environment in the Eastern Mediterranean and Beyond".

    The opening ceremony will be addressed, among others, by Greek Ambassador to Nicosia Kyriakos Rodousakis and Miguel Angel Moratinos, EU special envoy to the Middle East peace process.

    [05] USS Carney - Visit - Limassol

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) -- The US Navy Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer USS Carney, will pay a routine visit to the port city of Limassol, Cyprus, from October 19-23 so that its crew can relax and enjoy the local hospitality.

    The commanding officer of the 154 meter vessel displacing 9000 tons, is Commander A. Kurda who leads a crew of approximately 300 sailors, a statement by the US Embassy said here Tuesday.

    [06] Cyprus Airways - Fares - London

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) -- Cyprus Airways, the island's national carrier, has slashed fares to and from London, a trend it has began earlier this year in view of the liberalisation of air transport.

    Fares are effective from November 1. They start from 125 and reach 269 depending on the time of the flights, age group and other restrictions.
