    New York, Sep 23 (CNA) -- British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook promised his country would intensify its actions in achieving negotiations on Cyprus and to secure their success.

    Cook gave the assurance to his Cypriot counterpart, Ioannis Kasoulides, during a meeting here yesterday, on the sidelines of the 54th session of the UN General Assembly.

    New York, Sep 23 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides reiterated to his Albanian counterpart Rexhep Meidani Cyprus' readiness to offer financial assistance to Albania.

    The statement was made during a meeting here yesterday with Meidani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

    New York, Sep 23 (CNA) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is expected to call the two sides in Cyprus to three-week long peace talks in mid- October, in West Point, US.

    The invitations will be extended at the end of this month after a meeting between US President Bill Clinton and Turkish Premier Bulent Ecevit on September 28, in Washington, reliable sources told CNA.
