Nicosia, Aug 14 (CNA) -- Two British UN peace-keepers were wounded earlier today when Turkish troops opened fire at Greek Cypriot demonstrators, who had entered the UN-controlled buffer zone, UN sources have confirmed.

The condition of the two men is not yet known but they are in hospital receiving medical care.

    [02] Dead Greek Cypriot identified

Nicosia, Aug 14 (CNA) -- Police have identified the Greek Cypriot who was shot dead earlier today by Turkish troops during a demonstration in the UN-controlled buffer zone, at Dherynia.

He is 26-year-old Solomos Spyrou Solomos, from the Turkish-occupied town of Famagusta, resident of the eastern town of Paralimni.

A police spokesman said a total of eleven persons were shot, one of them, a 59-year-old woman, has suffered serious injuries in the abdomen.

Two British UN peace-keepers, two Cypriot police officers and six civilians are also among the injured.

Today's murder happened shortly after the funeral of another Greek Cypriot, Tasos Isaac, shot dead by the Turks on Sunday. Solomos is said to be Isaac's cousin, according to information.

Solomos was demonstrating against continuing Turkish occupation with another couple of hundred Greek Cypriots to protest Sunday's brutal killing by the Turks of another Greek Cypriot demonstrator during an anti-occupation rally.

This is the second Greek Cypriot killed in cold blood by Turkish occupation troops in three days.
