NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The President of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic stated for the radio "Voice of America" that she would not allow RS to economically fall behind the Muslim-Croat federation, what was the case so far. Commenting on success of the visit of the RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik to the U.S.A. and current events in B&H, the President Plavsic expressed opinion that the mentioned visit has been so important that similar processes would be launched in B&H - Serbian television reports.

PRIJEDOR - The vice-president of RS National Assembly and president of Serbian Radical Party (SRS) Nikola Poplasen assessed in Prijedor that in the following period we could expect a small number of returnees in place of their previous residence. In a statement for SRNA Poplasen said that by now only 15-20% of refugees have returned to their homes, emphasising that the international community was aware of that too.

SARAJEVO - Associates of the RS President and representatives of the Government have received in Banjaluka in separate visits delegation of the European Parliament (EP), Serbian Radio Television (SRT) reports. The president of the EU Commission for Foreign Affairs Tom Spencer stated after the meeting that the EP wished to find the best way to express support for the new RS Government.

SARAJEVO - A month after Milorad Dodik had been elected the new RS Prime Minister he has been in an official visit to the U.S.A., where he had talks with high U.S. officials. On that occasion he was being convinced that America, with help of governmental and nongovernmental organisation, would invest approximately $50 millions in RS. According to Milorad Dodik the main reason for his visit to the U.S.A. was to reach an agreement with the World Bank on credit arrangements valued at $20 millions for revitalisation of enterprises and banks, initiating of employment. SARAJEVO - On the agenda for the sixth day of preparation of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors in B&H, which are being taking place in Jahorina, lectures on the following subjects have been anticipated - Diplomatic Protocol, System of European Safety and Military Aspect of the Implementation of General Framework Agreement for Peace.

SARAJEVO - In the organisation of the International Committee of Red Cross (MKCK) in the federal part of Sarajevo in Kolegijum Artistikum at 5 pm will began with work the International Conference on coordination and warning about land mines and will last until February 27. As it has been stated for SRNA from the MKCK office in Pale, 30-40 representatives of countries endangered with mines should attend this conference.

SARAJEVO - The co-chairman of B&H Council of Ministers Haris Silajdzic denied the news that his Party for B&H would break up political cooperation with the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and would take part in election on its own in September.

ZAVIDOVICI - Unknown culprits have taken off the roof and took away the bell from catholic church in Lovnica near Muslimcontrolled Zavidovici.

SARAJEVO - During February in RS there very several exhibitions of local and foreign artists, numerous and noticed promotions of books, along with showing of film from the FEST '98, which were enabled by 'Banjaluka Film'. Review of SRNA's journalist Daliborka Kapuran "February has made happy book lovers and visitor to exhibitions".
