NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

AMSTERDAM - The final intention of the U.S.A. in B&H is creating of "a strong unitary state", the director of the Institute for the Balkans Steve Folker says in a report on the current situation in Republika Srpska (RS) and Muslim-Croat federation (FB&H) and next steps of Washington concerning further implementation of the Dayton peace accord. After several months' talks with officials of B&H, politicians, representatives of all three nations, journalists, chiefs of NATO and observers, Folker concluded that this year U.S.A. would direct their activities toward two key points of the Peace accord - urging return of refugees and trying of accused before the Hague war crimes tribunal.

HAMBURG - The final goal of the international community in B&H is disassembling of national-democratic parties and assembling of not national, multi-ethnic parties which, united, would be able to take over the power at all levels of one unitary state, "Welt" claims. Liberal papers in Germany more and more openly are criticising such attempts, while the conservative "Welt" reminds about an ironical message of Bertold Brecht who "after crushing of a rebellion against communistic regime in eastern Berlin in 1953 advised authorities of that time to search some other nation for themselves, because this one had not showed to be 'worthy' of their trust".

BONN - The German Minister of Foreign Affairs Klaus Kinkel assessed in Bonn that the decision of NATO about continuation of the military presence in B&H also after SFOR's mandate has expired in June was important and right. "As long as politically responsible persons in B&H are not capable of taking over the responsibility for peace, stability and reconciliation, creating of grey zone of security must not be allowed".

SARAJEVO - The international conference on coordination and warning about danger of mines, which will last until February 27, will begin in Kolegijum artistikum (an exhibit hall) in Sarajevo tomorrow, organised by International Committee of Red Cross (MKCK). As it has been reported to SRNA from the office of MKCK in Pale, 30 to 40 representatives of countries endangered by mines will participate at the conference.

LONDON - Representatives of OSCE, who have recently been in Croatia, concluded that the Serbs in Eastern Slavonia were exposed to sever economic discriminations, and that they were leaving this region in a great number, "Financial Times" claims, citing the news of AP. Going away of the Serbs from Eastern Slavonia, think officials of OSCE, will counterproductively reflect in progress of Croatian integration in international institutions such as NATO and EU are.

ZAGREB - In yesterday's clash between Croatian police and demonstrants in Zagreb, who had been protesting against poverty and aggravating of social situation in Croatia, several persons have been injured, was confirmed in Zagreb's hospitals. Five slightly injured persons have been transferred to the emergency squad, but it was not said whether those injured were demonstrants or policemen, Croatian radio Herzeg-Bosna reports. Seven person have been admitted in hospital (two policemen and five civilians), from which one policeman has been seriously injured and is still in hospital.

GENEVA - Neoustasha regime of the Croatian President Franjo Tudjman is striking ramparts of western civilisation and is getting on nerves of his western allies and patrons again, because he is too slowly adapting his extremely rightist policy to west standards of democracy, Swiss media claim. According to reports of Swiss media, that kind of Croatian regime has been expressed fully after yesterday's crushing of a strong syndical demonstrations at the Square of ban Jelacic in Zagreb.
