NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic, talked in Banjaluka with deputy high representative Michael Steiner on further implementation of the civilian part of the Dayton agreement. Following their meeting behind the doors, Steiner briefed the press saying "I informed president Plavsic of the procedures about zones of separation because she expressed a great concern due to latest incidents, as the one in which a bus with pupils was fired at, near Lopari".

BANAJLUKA - The RS president Biljana Plavsic talked in Banajluka with ambassadors of the Contact Group countries. After one-hour meeting, president Plavsic stated talks would be continued, while other participants of the meeting gave no statements.

BANJALUKA - The RS Government assessed that the newest demands of the high representative, Carl Bildt, represent the flagrant involving into the internal affairs of RS.

SLATINA - The RS Government at its regular session held in Banjaluka disapproved the opening of the so-called "southern corridor linking Sarajevo and Gorazde over Trnovo and Srbinje. The explanation is that there is no need for such as corridor simply because the corridor between Sarajevo and Gorazde running over Rogatica is opened for traffic every day.

BANJALUKA - The chief of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) Club of Representatives in the RS National Assembly, Nikola Poplasen, played down a demand coming from Muslim deputies for a change of the solemn statement. He stated for SRNA that "RS is the state of the Serbian people and national minorities, so it is quite legitimate and democratic that the text to content explicit Serbian peculiarities".

BEOGRAD - Spokesman of the Democratic Party (DS) Slobodan Vuksanovic, stated for SRNA that "there is no reason not to hold the solemn session of the Serb Parliament tomorrow in Banajluka, even if Muslim deputies try to boycott it". "The DS considers that as their legitimate right, with regard to all circumstances which gave them seats in the Serb Parliament". According to him, "it is not a very important thing, for the boycott of assemblies is usual everywhere in the world, so it can happen also in the Serb Parliament".

BANJALUKA - The president of the Serbian Party of the Krajina and Posavina, assessed the new electoral rules of the Provisional Electoral Commission are a mere violation of human rights. "The PEC decision prevents people in the Dayton B-h from choosing place to live. Such a decision should in no way be accepted and the right response to it is a Serb boycott", stated Lazarevic for SRNA.

SARAJEVO - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) top officials met in Sarajevo their Party of Democratic Action (SDA) counterparts in order to open a new series of negotiations in a bid to solve contentious issues in the Sarajevo Canton - one of them being the power share in the whole of B-H Federation. Muslim Radio-Sarajevo reports the talks were held behind the doors, while the improvement in untangling disputable issues, especially those relating to problems in the Sarajevo Canton, is expected.

SARAJEVO - About 150 Croat women blocked and stoned a bus carrying Muslim refugees, who came to visit their former homes in the Croat-held Capljina, UN spokesman Patrick Swenson stated in Sarajevo. "The passengers, Muslim from Capljina, expelled from the city in 1993 by the Croats, returned to the eastern part of Mostar, where the large number of Muslim victims of Croat ethnic cleansing found shelter", specified Swenson.

SARAJEVO - The Muslim paper "Oslobodjenje" sharply criticises the Croat- Muslim Federation Government and prime minister Izudin Kapetanovic, asking the explanation of ways the funds should be spend. The paper writes that "if the Federal Government, led by Kapetanovic goes on like that, it will have spent the most of budged by the end of this year".
