[01] ELIMINATION OF EFFECTS OF THE CIVIL WAR
President of the Republic Slobodan Milosevic received yesterday the
delegation of the United Nations Commission for Missing Persons in Former
Yugoslavia, headed by the former American Secretary of State Cyrus Vance. In a
cordial and open talk, the greatest attention was focused on the efforts devoted
to the strengthening of peace and elimination of consequences of the civil war
conducted in former Yugoslavia. It was stated that the successful results of the
peace process in these areas have made possible stabilization of the overall
relations, normalization of life and have opened the perspectives for revival
and building of mutual confidence, which includes also the solution of problems
of determining the fate of the missing persons. The Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia is supporting the efforts made in this direction, it was stated
during the talks, and the Yugoslav Government has formed a special committee
with the task to participate in gathering of data important for the solution of
this question. It was underlined that the successful process of normalization of
the relations between states and peoples in former Yugoslavia is the best way of
strengthening peace and stability in the region, as well as the most effective
manner for reaffirmation of their mutual cooperation, on the basis of equality
and equitable protection of their legitimate interests.

[02] CONSENSUS OF POLITICAL WISDOM
Serbia needs most of all the internal stability, in view of the obligations
which are awaiting it, in overcoming the obstacles during its reintegration in
the international community, said President of the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia Zoran Lilic on the occasion of the third round of voting for the
local self-government. "Serbia needs an action unity, i.e. a consensus of
political wisdom, which means", Lilic explained, "a high degree of
responsibility of each one of us individually, regardless of the fact to which
political party we belong". After this round of voting, said Lilic, what is
forthcoming for Serbia is a period of great engagement, and much less a period
of discord.

[03] THE THIRD ROUND OF VOTING COMPLETED
President of the City Electoral Commission of Belgrade, Radomir Lazarevic,
stated last night that voting repeated in 14 Belgrade municipalities, where
citizens were electing another 55 deputies, took place without problems and
objections. He underlined that in the work of the electoral boards,
representatives of the parties whose candidates complied with the conditions for
competing in the third electoral round, have also taken part.

[04] FULL COOPERATION WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Milan
Milutinovic, who is on the official visit to the European institutions with the
headquarters in Brussels, and on the official return visit to Belgium, had a
meeting yesterday with the leaders of both Houses of the Belgian Parliament.
During the talks with the President of Senate Franc Svolen and President of the
Lower House Raymond Langendris, there was discussion of the bilateral relations,
actual situation in the two countries, international developments and
cooperation between the parliaments of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and
Belgium. In the opinion of the Yugoslav Minister, the talks were very
substantial and took place in a cordial atmosphere. High officials of the
Belgian Parliament pointed out at full support of their country to the
cooperation with Yugoslavia and expressed support to the efforts of our country
to realize full cooperation with the European Union. Minister Milutinovic stated
that his meetings during the past three days with the representatives of the
highest institutions of the European Union were very substantial. Recalling that
the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, before the year 1990, had 12 agreements with
the European Union, he expressed hope that there will be soon a renewal of the
political and economic relations with the European Union at the same level.

[05] STRONG DINAR - AN ABSOLUTE PRIORITY
Stability of the local currency dinar over the past year was secured
exclusively through economic measures and this will also be done in the next
year, stated the Deputy Governor of the National Bank (Central Bank) of
Yugoslavia, Bozidar Gazivoda in his interview for "Vecernje novosti". "A strong
dinar is our absolute priority", said Gazivoda, and this is something that all
the three governments have agreed upon, and therefore, it will be continued with
interventions of the Central Bank on the market in order to provide conditions
for the stable exchange rate. When asked by the press about regulation of our
status in the International Monetary Fund and the other international financial
organizations, without which there can be no significant inflow of capital and a
faster economic recovery, Gazivoda answered: "Since I am not a politician, I
will comment only on the economic part - we have already completed the work
there. The leaderships of these organizations are only awaiting the political
decision of their countries to accept what we have already agreed upon in the
sphere of finances. It is also in their interest for us to recover economically
as soon as possible so that we can repay our debts. We are not a country with
excessive indebtedness so we can accept new credits."
