  • [01] LEFTISTS - MAJORITY IN PARLIAMENT

    The Federal Electoral Commission, after receiving data from all the 36 electoral units, announced the final results of elections for the members of the Citizens' Council in the Yugoslav Parliament.

    The Coalition Serbian Socialist Party- Yugoslav Leftists- Nova Demokratija won the majority at the parliamentary elections, that is, the total of 1.847.610 votes, thus insuring 64 mandates in the Citizens' Council.

    The Coalition " "Zajedno" (Together) won 969.198 votes, that is, 22 mandates, Serbian Radical Party won 779.126 votes or 16 mandates, The Democratic Party of Montenegrin Socialists won 146.221 vote, meaning 20 mandates.

    The People's Party of Monte Negro won 8 mandates with 66.165 votes, The Union of the Hungarians from Vojvodina won 81,310 votes and 3 mandates, the Coalition Vojvodina won 2 mandates with 57.645 votes and the List for Sandzak, Socialdemocratic Party of Monte Negro and the Democratic Action Party of Montenegro all won by one mandate in the Citizens' Council.     [02] NEW AMBASSADORS

    Yugoslav President Zoran Lilich received in separate visits the newly appointed extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of the Republic of France and Canada in our country, Mr. Stanislas Filiol and Mr. Denis Snider.

    The Ambassadors Filiol and Snider handed over to President Lilich the credentials by which they were appointed by French President Jacques Shirak and the Supreme Commander of Canada, Romeo Leblan. (Politika Ekspres, November 7, 1996)

    [03] IMPROVING HEALTH CARE

    Federal Minister of Work, Health Care and Social Policy Mr. Miroslav Ivanisevic talked yesterday with the Republic of Cyprus' Minister of Health Mr. Manodis Hristofidis about the renewal of cooperation in the field of health care between the two countries. Following the talks, the Ministers signed the Agreement on Cooperation between the Yugoslav Government and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus in fields of health care, medical sciences and pharmacy.     [04] AGREEMENT ON COOPERATION BETWEEN THE BUREAUS OF CUSTOMS

    General Manager of the Board of Customs and Excise, Mr. Mihaly Kertez and the Chairman of The State Customs Committee Mr. Alexander Kruglov signed last evening in Moscow the Agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance between the Customs Service of FR Yugoslavia and Russian Federation. By this document the foundations are established for the immediate and long-term cooperation of the Customs Services of both countries and, as estimated, will provide a good base for the improvement of the entire economic cooperation.     [05] SIPOVAC RECEIVED THE GENERAL MANAGER OF SWISS COMPANY

    Serbian Government Deputy President and Minister of Agriculture Mr. Nedeljko Sipovac received yesterday Mr. Joseph Phinas, General Manager of the Swiss company Fine Grain, European Branch of one of the largest world-wide companies for grain, Continental Grain. The possibilities of enhancing the existing cooperation in manufacturing and commerce of agricultural products, mainly grain. (Borba, November 7, 1996)

    [06] SERBIAN POPULATION AND CLERGY TO RETURN TO CROATIA

    After their one-day visit to Zagreb, where they had met the Croat President Franjo Tudjman and Cardinal Franjo Kuharic, the members of the Serbian Orthodox Church Delegation, The Episcopal Bishop of Sumadija Mr. Sava and the Zagreb-Ljubljana and entire Italy Metropolitan Bishop Mr. Jovan.

    The Episcopal Bishop of Sumadija stated for Politika on this occasion that

    during the 40 minutes Talk with Mr. Tudjman about the problems of our church which emerged during and after this unfortunate war, The Delegation of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Serbia raised the question of our people's return to their century-old homes and the return of monkshood, clergy and Eparchial bishops to their residencies. We considered it necessary to stress that for the people who decide to return to their homes employment should be ensured as well, since this is the only way to ensure their existence in Croatia.

    The Episcopal Bishop Sava also concluded that the representatives of Croatia and The Catholic Church were very interested in this meeting and that the talks were not only courteous, since they are also interested in solving the issues of their congregation in FR Yugoslavia.     [07] AMBUSHING AND KILLING

    The three arrested Albanians, Besim Rama, Avi Nuri and Idriz Asani, suspected to have carried out, as members of terrorist organizations, multiple attacks on premises and members of the Serbian Ministry of Interiors in Kosovo and Metohija, admitted their participation in those actions before the Magistrate Court in Pristina.

    Besim Rama gave a detailed story about the attack he had carried out together with Adem Jasari, Sahit Jasari, Neradin Ljustrak,Fadilj Kadri and Zenun Kadri on the main road Pristina-Rozaje.

    On the 22nd of April, about 9.30 PM, carrying automatic rifles and revolvers, they set an ambush. As the vehicle of militia approached, Neredin Ljustrik opened fire from an automatic and Zemun Kadri fired his revolver. The others from the group could not open fire, said Besim Rama, for the vehicle was moving fast. During this action, the terrorist shot the member of militia Dragan Nesic, seriously wounded militia member Slobodan Dudic, but his three colleagues luckily were not wounded.

    The same night, the members of other terrorist groups in down-town cafe Decani in performed a massacre, killing three civilians and wounded many. The terrorists killed one militia member in Stimac, on the same night, and they also fired at the militia patrol in Pec. (Vecernje novosti, November 7, 1996)

    [08] SERBIAN KNIGHT BETSY LALICH

    At the premises of the Serbian World-wide Union, yesterday Ms Betsy Lalich was awarded the title of Serbian Knight. Ms Lalich is the Chairlady of the US Jewish-Serbian Friendship Association for Middle America. Ms Lalich helped in establishing many a useful contact of the Serbian Community with the organizations of Jews in Chicago, New York and Washington, with a lot of influence in USA. During the past period of anathema of Serbian People in world media and the political and economic isolation of Yugoslavia. this gained importance.

    The Council of the Serbian World-wide Community established the Medal of Serbian Knight in 1993. and this recognition was until now won by ten Serbs and one Frenchman, General Pierre Marie Galoi. (Vecernje novosti, November 7, 1996)
