  • [01] MINISTER MICHAELIDIS IN BELGRADE

    Mr. Alecos Michaelidis, Republic of Cyprus"s Foreign Minister, arrived yesterday for an official visit to FR Yugoslavia. At arrival, Mr. Michaelidis stated that our two countries are bonded by exceptional historical, religious and political relations. " There are numerous possibilities for closer cooperation of the two countries in all fields, political, economic and cultural", said Mr. Michaelidis. He also expressed his great pleasure to be in Belgrade for the first time. (TANJUG, Oct. 9,1996.)

    [02] TALKS BETWEEN YUGOSLAV AND GERMAN BUSINESSMEN CLOSED

    Commenting the meetings and talks, Dr. Hans Schill, Deputy Minister of Industry and the Head of the German delegation, stated that in Bonn, a document between ours and the German Government will be signed soon. After that " our economic cooperation will continue and expand.

    At the premises of Serbian Government, Minister of Energy, Dr. Dragan Kostic talked to the representative of the firm SIEMENS from Munich Mr. Rudolf Bertsho about the renewed participation of this firm in the building and revitalization of electroenergetic and mining objects in Serbia.     [03] RIGHTFULLY TO PREVLAKA

    Montenegrian President Momir Bulatovic received yesterday in Podgorica UN Head of Bureau, Mr. Julian Harston. They concluded that the Agreement on the normalization of relations between FR Yugoslavia and the Republic of Croatia gives a practical basis to solve through negotiations between the two sides the territorial issues on Prevlaka and that two of its proclamations supplying the UN authority and control this process as well as the presence of UN military observers in this area have a significant part.

    Mr. Bulatovic particularly stressed that Montenegro, i.e., FR Yugoslavia, will fully support the successful carrying out of UN peace Corps role at Prevlaka, until the final legal and rightful solution is reached. (Novosti, Oct. 9, 1996)

    [04] IN SEPTEMBER EXPORT INCREASED 32%

    Based on the newest data on the foreign trade of our industry for nine months, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, Mr. Milovan Zivkovic, estimated yesterday that the total Yugoslav export of goods and services in this year will attain abt 2,5 billions of dollars. With the September export increase of 3,2 percent against the same month last year, the value of nine-month" s deliveries of Yugoslav goods to the foreign buyers amounted up to 1.259 billions of dollars, making it 9,5% bigger that in the same month last year. The statistics show two especially favorable tendencies:

    The final products being exported in larger quantities and at the same time the goods are being exported to two mostly developed European countries, Germany and Italy, Mr. Zivkovic stressed. (Politika, Oct. 9, 1996)

    [05] BASIS FOR THE NORMALIZATION OF RELATIONS BETWEEN FRY AND B&H ADOPTED

    The Federal Government, adopting the information on the base for the normalization of relations between Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, estimated the Mutual Statement, signed by presidents Slobodan Milosevic and Alija Izetbegovic in Paris, represents an essential contribution for establishing a lasting peace and stability in the Balkans and the South East of Europe. The results of Paris talks are exceptionally important and of long-term significance for FRY and its entire national interest on the domestic and international level. The Mutual Statement has a great diplomatic significance for FRY and its entire international position, the Federal Government assessed. (Politika, Oct. 9, 1996)

    [06] OGATA SEEKING MORE SUBSTANTIAL AID FOR REFUGEES IN FRY

    Ms Sadako Ogata, High Commissioner for Refugees, insisted yesterday on a more substantial financial and material aid to FR Yugoslavia and some other countries, in order to solve the problem of refugees more successfully. She particularly invited the country-donors attending the meeting to press their governments in order to ensure the success of our actions in Bosnia, FR Yugoslavia, Croatia.., reports AFP. Ms. Ogata called to attention the fact that UNHCR fonds are "dangerously empty", since instead of the promised 1,3 billion, only 776 million of dollars has been allocated, thus " endangering the further successful performing of UNHCR.     [07] INDUSTRIAL MANIFESTATION "BUSINESS - POLAND 96" INAUGURATED

    At the Belgrade Fair, yesterday, Mr. Ian Haladai, Poland"s Deputy Minister of Ecomonic Relations and Mr. Slobodan Radulovic, Serbian Government Deputy Prime Minister, inaugurated the industrial manifestation "Business-Poland 96". At this, first exhibition of international trade after the lifting of sanctions, more than 200 Polish firms will offer their programs to their Yugoslav partners. We are glad that your country has returned to the international market and we would like to become the main partners in the industrial cooperation with Yugoslavia, said Mr. Ian Haladai.     [08] CROATIA ACCEPTED UNTAES MANDATE PROLONGATION

    General Jaques Klein, the transitory manager of UNTAES, stated after the yesterday"s talks with Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, that Croatia has accepted the prolongation of UNTAES mandate till spring next year. Remarking that he had also talked to the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic the day before in Belgrade, Mr. Klein said that it was agreed in Zagreb " that the Croatian Danube basin should be incorporated into the Croatian constitutional and legal system early Spring next year". He also mentioned that the founding of mutual Board for organizing the elections in this region, which should be held " as soon as possible". (Politika, Oct. 9, 1996)

    [09] RENN NOT ENCOURAGED BY VISITING KRAJINA

    UN Special Reporter for Human Rights, Ms. Elisabeth Renn, arrived yesterday to the Srem-Baranya region, and met the UN Administrator Mr. Jaques Klein. During her ninth visit to the Former Yugoslavia, Renn said yesterday in Vukovar:" I am not encouraged by the results of my visit to Krajina, for only a very small number of Serbs were allowed to return to their homes. The robberies continue, and again the explosives are being placed into houses. At least three people were killed and several wounded. Regretfully, I had the impression that the Croat police is not to mach interested in solving those criminal cases". As opposed to that, said Ms. Renn, at the Serbian region there are no serious incidents nor infringements of human rights. (Politika, Oct. 9, 1996)

    [10] BARANYA - BRIDGE FOR COOPERATION

    Mr. Vasa Zigic, The President of Beli Manastir Assembly stated that the area of Eastern Slavonia, Baranya and Western Srem should be the "bridge of cooperation between FR Yugoslavia and Croatia", following the signing of Agreement on normalization of relations, said Mr. Zigic in an interview for Zagreb daily "Vjesnik". Zigic underlined that beforehand, it is necessary to carry out all the instructions of the Erdut Agreement, meaning that all refugees, not only Croats but Serbs, who left their ancient hearths, should be allowed to return to their homes.     [11] SDA TERRORIZING

    Deputy President of the Democratic National Community of Velika Kladusa, whose headquarters in refuge in Zagreb, Mr. Bozidar Sicel, stated that in the Una- Sana canton, where the Party of Democratic Action is in power, not only political but all other kinds of terrorizing is continuing, reports the Croatian radio. In the last ten days, several bombs were thrown, property destroyed, fires, demolition and physical torture occurred there, but this fact is concealed, said Sicel. Because of this, six representatives of DNC, whose leader is Mr. Fikret Abdic, did not arrive yesterday in Bihac for the first constituent session of the Una- Sana canton, since, by the same source, the authorities are openly threatening to arrest them, in case they come to B&H. " The ruling Moslem party SDA in the western Bosnia establishes the Islamic state, which will become so strong soon, that it will give Europe an headache, said representative Irfan Saracevic.     [12] ON ECONOMIC RENEWAL OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

    In Wiener today the meeting continues on the economic renewal of Bosnia and Herzegovina reduction of great unemployment and social consequences of the civil war. The meeting is attended by the industrial experts from FR Yugoslavia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Hungary, Japan and Austria, as well as the representatives of the international organizations, dealing in the economic renewal and reforms in Bosnia.     [13] DOLLARS FOR REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA

    Republic of Srpska Minister of Finance, Mr. Novak Kondic said yesterday in an interview for TANJUG that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund approved a loan of 60 million dollars to Republic of Srpska, for the so called urgent supplies. The money can be used as soon as the Government of Republic of Srpska established the priorities for the urgent supplies. The loan is given free of interest and the deadline for repayment is 40 years. (Novosti, Oct. 9, 1996)

    [14] SERBIAN PATROLS

    At Pale, yesterday, the talks between the Republic of Srpska, Minister of interiors Mr. Dragan Kijac and the UN Secretary General Special Envoy Counselor Mr. Jeffrey Beaumont, concluded the villages of Jusici and Mahala into which the Moslem settled illegally. Following the talks, Mr. Beaumont said that it was agreed that already from today on the international police forces and the Republic of Srpska Police patrol together and enable the implementation of the RS Authority in the territory the Dayton Agreement allocated to Republic of Sprska. (Novosti, Oct. 9, 1996).

    [15] AMERICANS LEAVING BOSNIA

    The first group of American soldiers of the Multinational Peace Corps in Bosnia starts to withdraw, according to Pentagon instructions. That was announced in the Headquarters of the American contingent in Tuzla. The Representative of the American forces said that this is the " first official withdrawal of the American troops from Bosnia. (TANJUG, Oct. 9, 1996)
