    [02] Theodor Stolojan and the Presidency of Romania

    Former Prime Minister Stolojan acepted to announce his candidacy to the office of President of Romania reported RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. National Liberal Party leaders have said that both Mr. Stolojan and the present Prime Minister Isarescu met with the National Liberal Party leadership board and announced, the first that he would assume candidacy for the Presidency of the country, and the second that he would rather continue as PM in case a political group that supported him would win this fall's elections. More would be said at the meeting with the media of PNL and then construction is expected for the political platform of the ticket.

    Former Prime Minister Stolojan told RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that he would certainly announce his candidacy to the office of President of Romania at the press conference of the National Liberal Party of today and that according to his opinion the present Prime Minister of the Bucharest Cabinet, Mugur Isarescu, is the most adequate person to continue the programme of reform after the elections in the fall.

    President of PNTCD, Ion Diaconescu, has had meetings and talks with present Prime Minister of the Bucharest cabinet, Mugur Isarescu, and they will have some other talks at the same location,on the Black Sea Cost. According to Ion Diaconescu no decision was made as yet.

    Candidacy to the office of President of Romania of Mugur Isarescu is not certain reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. The PNTCD leader Ion Diaconescu told the same radio channel that talks would continue and in as far as negociations with PNL are concerned they would be resumed if there is a result of the Diaconescu - Isarescu talks.

    Ore carrier ENTERPRISE under Bahamas pavillion cast anchor in the port of Constanta after a delay of three weeks, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports, as the Turkish authorities stopped the ship to sail the straits as she was too long for a safe passage. Only after the intervention of Romanian authorities in Constanta and Bucharest could the ship pass through.

    [07] Dispute between the Ministry of Education and the Bucharest Town Hall

    Repair work of the schools of Bucharest causes conflict between the Ministry of National Education of Romania and the Bucharest Town Hall. According to the Ministry officials the conflict which is generated by delay in the start of repair work is caused by the town halls of each of the districts of the city of Bucharest while the Bucharest Town Hall replies that there is no protocol according to which repair work of schools should be done at the expense of the mayor offices of the city. The Ministry then replies that there is a law according to which repair work is done by local town halls. Bottom line is that neither of the budgets - nor that of the Ministry or that of the Bucharest Town Hall - has the necessary money to start repair work which is estimated at about 200 thousand million lei, reports ROMANIA ONE TELEVISION STATION.

    At Neptun today, on the Black Sea Coast of Romania, Ion Diaconescu - president of PNTCD - Christian Democratic National Peasants Party - continues talks with Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu for his candidacy to the Presidency of Romania in the fall.

    At the seat of PNL - National Liberal Party - Theodor Stolojan has announced his candidacy to the office of president of Romania.

    Press Conference of PNTCD, UFD, FER to release the Protocol of collaboration within CDR - Romanian Democratic Convention - which is the political platform and the joint economic programme, at the Parliament Palace.

    Session of the Central Executive Committee of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - today.

    Two prosecutors working for the General Prosecutors' Office of Romania have left for Israel today to extradite Maria Vlas, former administrator of the National Investment Fund who has ben charged with embezzlement and fraud.

    [09] ANNIVERSARIES AND COMMEMORATIONS

    In 1864 the Town Hall of the city of Bucharest was created and the first mayor of the city was Barbu Vladoianu.

    In 1907 Gheorghe Cartianu - Popescu was born; he was an electromechanical engineer and he helped build the Bod transmitter between 1933 - 1934; he then built the first FM broadcasting station of this country, of his own make and conception, in 1982.

    In 1983 - transition of Emanoil Petrut, one of the greatest actors of Romania. He was 51.

    in 1900, Boston, Mass., hosted the first edition of DAVIS CUP LAWN TENNIS CONTEST.
