  • [01] Press Conference of the new Minister of Transports Anca Boagiu

    The new transports minister of Romania Anca Boagiu said she would continue the policy of former minister of transports Traian Basescu by furthering modernization of rail road equipment in the conditions in which it is expected that the negociations of the Finance Ministry with the Cabinet of Japan on the ensurance of resources of financing are concluded successfully soon ­ informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. Mrs. Boagiu said she would further ensure the management of the RICOÐ programme for Romania. The new minister of transports said that in the last few days she inspected the segment of ROMANIA ONE NATIONAL HIGHWAY linking Ploiesti to Campina and said that CONTRASIMEX is a dissapointment in as far as tempo and quality of wore are concerned. If no improvement is noted, Mrs. Boagiu added, she would have to terminate the contract with the company CONTRASIMEX. Another concern of the new minister of transports of Romania is ensuring rail road and highway transports.

    [02] Debates of the Leading Board of the Democratic Party ­ PD

    The President of the Democratic Party Petre Roman said after the conclusion of the debates of the Leading Board of the Democratic Party which unfolded at the Senate on Sunday afternoon that the Democratic Party was a formation in full development which is struggling for the leading role in the interval 2000 ­ 2004. Mr. Roman said that unlike otheR left wing parties that are standing for a bearable poverty his political party was standing for Romania to be among the developed countries of Europe. Mr. Roman estimated that social democracy did not mean a come bacë to the old slogans and that the Democratic Party was for a policy of large investments and not for supporting companies with losses. The Democratic Party leadeR added that the biggest social inbalances appeared in the interval 1992 ­ 1996, while one of the causes of social polarity is taø dodging, informs RADIo ROMANIa ACTUALITATI. The efforts of the encumbent power are sterile in the sense of ensuring alliances for the future elections. The Democratic Party is hoping that political personalities will side with it in the future electoral race as well as in the policy for European integration, added Petre Roman.

    [03] Council of the Representatives of UDMR ­ Union of Democratic Magyars of Romania

    The President of UDMR Marko Bela said for RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that the Union of Democratic Magyars of Romania would have its own lists at the future general elections this fall and that a decision for the nomination of the candidate to the Presidency of Romania would be made in September.

    The legal status of Magyars living outside the borders of theiR native land would make the object of a draft law which will be submitted for debate and approval to the Hungarian government.

    [04] Visit of the Justice Minister of Romania to Moscow

    Mr. Valeriu Stoica arrived in Moscow last night for an official visit at the invitation of his Russian opposite number Yurii Chayka. Upon his arrival Mr. Stoica told the reporteR of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that he would discuss with his host the ways and means of implementing the accord of legal cooperation of the two countries.

    [05] Romanian Foreign Ministry denies the affirmation of a Taiwan newspaper

    According to a newspaper of Taiwan Romania would be one of three Eastern European countries that secretly negociate with Taiwan the establishment of diplomatic relations. Spokesperson of the Romanian foreign ministry Mrs. Ireni Comaroschi told RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that this information is absurd and totally false adding that Romania observes the existence of the People's Republic of China with the Cabinet in Beijing as the only legitimate administrator of the entire country. The differences between Beijing and Taipei are a domestic question of China. Spokesperson of the Romanian Foreign Ministry added that Romania did not wish to establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan and that the Romanian state institutions did not have any contacts with the authorities of Taipei.

    [06] 496 years since the death of Prince Stephen the Great

    Last Sunday on the commemoration of 495 years since the death of Prince Stephen the Great a service tooë place at Putna Monastery which was conducted by Pimen, Bishop of Suceava and Radauti and a large number of priests. During the sermon Bishop Pimen voiced his hope that n the spirit of the traditions of this people the President of Romania would not accept the cancellation of article 20° of the Criminal Code on homosexual relations as voted by the ChambeR of Deputies, announces RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.
