[01] Projects financed by IOM to go on in 2000Gjirokaster, January 2 (ata) - By E.Serjani - The projects financed by International Organization for Migration IOM will go on in 2000, reported on Sunday the Management Chief of IOM projects Fernando Arocena.Great work is performed in 1999 in returning home Kosova refugees sheltered in Albania. Other projects worth to 30 thousand dollars each will be implemented this year. The total value invested on the five projects implemented in Gjirokaster and Saranda during the second half of 1999 by this organization in cooperation with other foreign donors is 200 thousand dollars. According to the Head Engineering of the Albanian Transition Initiatives ATI Tomor Luzati, five projects in Gjirokaster and six others in Permet and Tepelene will be implement this year. Hajno, The return of the Albanian emigrants to the island of Corfu and other Greek regions, began on Saturday through "Kaliopi" and "Violeta" ferries of Saranda-Corfu line. They had arrived a few days ago to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. According to the commandant of the police of Saranda port, Haki Koshi, over 100 Albanian emigrants, employed in Greece, turned back through ferries on Saturday. Some 2000 emigrants are expected to leave through this port within the first days of the next week, said Koshi. The border police of the port, for this reason, has taken precautions to eliminate gatherings and long queues. Sources from the port police pointed out that the last year the number of the emigrants that came to celebrate year's end feasts was greater than the influx of this year. According to them the agitated sea conditions of the last two days made many of them cancel their trips to Albania. The influx of the returns is expected to be greater during the days that will follow. /lh/so/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] New electric sub-station in Shkodra soonShkoder, January 2 (ata) - By M.Malja - New electric sub-station will be set up during the first three months of 2000 in Shkodra, reported on Sunday the spokesperson of the prefecture.According to him this sub-station and two other in Durres and Tirana will be build up through the fund of 17 billion lire accorded by the Italian Government. The sources from the electric enterprise reported that a great transformer to improve considerably the electric energy provision of the region will be fitted in this station. Meanwhile, KESH will perform the rehabilitation of the distribution system in several parts of the town. Great concern remains the nonpayment of the duties to KESH by the consumers, which reaches to 84%. "Based upon a plan drafted in cooperation with Task Force and the district police the electric energy will be cut off starting from the coming week for all the subjects and families that failed to pay the duties", said the director of electric enterprise Brahim Huti. /lh/linda/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[03] Year 2000: World Bank to support economic development of AlbaniaTIRANE, Jan 2 (ATA)- By A.Gjata,World Bank will continue providing credits to support Albanian economy, sources from WB bank headquarters in Tirana reported on Sunday. Albania, since 1992, has signed the respective agreements with World Bank to get US$ 481 million and over US$ 251 million have been disbursed up to 1999, that have been utilized in infrastructure sectors, which also include energetics and improvement of water supplying, in the domain of agriculture and protection of the forests as well as in the education and health sectors. During 2000 this bank will earmark over US$ 200 million. WB, in the future, is envisaged to earmark some US$ 50-100 million per year to Albania. In December 1999, WB approved a credit worth US$ 13,65 million to support the Project for the Emergent Repairing of Roads in Albania. This emergency credit will help repair the main road that connects Adriatic Sea (Durres Port) with Kosova. The credit worth $ 13,65 million will be earmarked according to IDA standards, with a 40 year liquidating term, including a remission period of ten years. Albania became member of World Bank in 1991. /lh/so/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[04] Year 2000: Albanian Bank credit for Albanian government to amount to 6, 9 billion leksTIRANE, Jan 2 (ATA)- By E.Metaj, The Bank of Albania, during 2000, may earmark over 6,9 billion leks to the Government.In this way the Bank surpasses expectations of the Ministry of Finance on the incomes and budgetary expenditures, according to which the credit for the government will be of 4,3 billion leks worth. According to Albanian Central Bank sources, the increase of the credit is based on the law "On the Albanian Bank", according to which the new credit given to the government for a determinate year amounts to 5% of the general average incomes of the three previous years, and in extraordinary conditions it amounts to 8%. During 2000 it is envisaged to be realized an economic increase of 8%, the limit of inflation by the end of the year will reach 3%, reserves currency will have the value of imports of 4,3 months, and the deficit of the current account will be at the limit of 9% in proportion to the Gross Domestic Product. The Bank of Albania, based on these objectives, has drafted its monetary programme, where an increase of 10% of the money evaluation is defined.
