    TIRANE, August 21 (ATA) - By Urim Bajrami: Follow some of the main headlines of Albanian daily papers on Saturday:

    KOHA JONE, independent daily

    -"Nano makes the first compromise with the party". Nano decides that all work he is doing with the reformation of SP ideas, helped by his staff with people of civil society, will be handed over to the SP offices in the center. -"SDP, the history of a failed business of Gjinushi with Apostoli". Social Democratic Party misses 10 000 Dollars and 15 000 German Marks. The history of their lost has the origin five years ago when this sum of money is send to a pyramidal investment scheme. -"The oil smuggling booming". The ships unload every day considerable amounts of oil in the ports of Durres and Shengjim.

    -"Pashko: DP - a military ward". Interview with the economic aide of the Albanian Premier and one of the creators of DP, Gramoz Pashko. -"Aposoli: Coaches? It was the government which decided". The outgoing minister of Public Works and Transport, Gaqo Apostoli, says that the agreement was decided by the government. -"'Rainbow' scandal discovered". According to "Panorama" magazine, the aid gathered for Kosove refugees is looted and misused.

    -"Majko orders Klosi: Stop the arms' traffic". Premier Pandeli Majko ordered on Friday the equipping with cameras of the custom houses and border points. -"Morini contraband, custom officers arrested". Four custom officers as well as two border police sacked and arrested because some vans without undergoing the custom procedures were found in the Morina crossing point. -"Kakavije - 400 million Drachmas in the pockets of custom officers". The 21-rst division discovers the Kakavije scandal.

    [02] Contingent of Turkish soldiers of Pasha Limatit reconstructs one of Vlore city schools

    VLORE, August 21 (ATA) - By Harilla Koçi: The contingent of Turkish soldiers, which is working for more than a year on constructing the naval military base of Pasha Limanit, Vlore city, will reconstruct the general high school "Mustafa Qemal Ataturk", director of this school, Irakli Billa, told ATA on Saturday.

    According to him, the project drafted for this aim foresees the regulation of inner grounds of this school, the construction of the new gymnasium and the cumputer labs. They will set up as well labs for other exact subjects. /lh/A.A/

    [03] Haklaj to be medically treated in Tirane Military Hospital

    TIRANE, August (ATA) - By Th.Thanasi: After having examined the grave health condition of Fatmir Haklaj, hospitalized in the prison hospital, a group of doctors asked the General Prosecution to transfer him to the Military hospital for more specialized cures, the spokesman of the Prosecution office, told ATA on Saturday.

    Taking into consideration the request of the medical team, the General Prosecution decided on Friday to transfer the patient Haklaj back to the Tirane Military hospital.

    Haklaj was injured in Tropoje on August 4 of the current year. The medical examinations show that he is gravely hit on the back of the head. Haklaj was arrested with decision issued by Mirdite court. He is accused of murdering an order police in the grounds of Tropoje commissariat a year ago, when Haklaj was nominated to the post of chief of Tropoje commissariat. /a.ke/A.A/

    [05] Majko demands control on the incomes of senior officials

    TIRANE, August 21 (ATA) - Albania's Premier, Pandeli Majko demanded a severer control by specialized state organizations on the incomes of senior state personalities and the sources where they come from, the Premier's press office told ATA on Saturday.

    According to him, Premier Majko, in conformity with his constitutional right, signed on Saturday an order on adoption of measures regarding the completion of legal obligations of senior state personalities and those of the elected bodies.

    The press release said that this order asked the ministry of finance to implement with strictness, correctness and toughness, through the general tax directory and the general custom directory, all the laws and regulations in power for the duties of the senior state personalities, officials of elected bodies or to those that belong to the political posts in the organization structure of civil service, regarding the custom fees for the goods which come in the name and account of the above mentioned objects.

    The Ministry of Finance was asked as well to find out the source and the destination of the goods arriving in Albanian custom points, and to issue the respective announcement close to the Premier and the the state commission for the wealth declaration not less than once a month. /lh/A.A/

    [06] Majko orders control on figure of duty and customs workers

    TIRANE, August 21 (ATA)-By E. Nepravishta, Prime Minister Pandeli Majko on Saturday ordered the adoption of several measures to screen the figure of duty and customs workers, the Premier's press office told ATA.

    It says that the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Public Order and National Information Service (SHIK) are charged with the implementation of this task.

    According to this order, the Ministry of Finance is requested to screen the figure of the workers of Customs General Department and Duty General Department.

    For this purpose, written information is required for every worker of these departments by specialised structures of the Ministry of Public Order and NIS. For the workers who have had temporary residence abroad information is requested also from INTERPOL.

    Majko orders the reexamination of all crackdowns on the workers of these structures this year.

    Majko also orders the Ministry of Finance, within September 30, to organise screening of property of all workers of these structures and the extension of this control also to their relatives. /lh/lm/

    [07] PM Majko asks halt to abuses in KESH

    TIRANE, August 21 (ATA)-By E. Nepravishta, Albanian Prime Minister Pandeli Majko on Saturday warned of changes to the leading staff of the Albanian Power Generation and Distribution Firm(KESH).

    At a meeting held at the Prime Minister's office with KESH leading officials, Majko asked information about the management of the fund of 700 million leks, provided to KESH by the government.

    On behalf of the state, Majko urged a severe fight against abuses. He also asked information about gathering of incomes and payment of electric power by consumers.

    As to the payment of electric power by the consumer, the KESH director general, Alfred Paloka, said that 92.5 % of private subjects have paid it, but there are problems with its liquidation by family consumers.

    Also present at the meeting were Ylli Bufi, Minister of Economy and Privatisation, and Adriana Berberi, deputy Minister of Finance. /y.pa/lm/

    [08] Greek premier to visit Albania soon

    TIRANE, August 21 (ATA)-by I. Paco, Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis will visit Tirane on Tuesday.

    This is the third visit for a Greek Prime Minister to Albania and the second for Simitis. The first to visit Albania was Constantine Mitsotakis in 1994, of "new democracy" , the main party of the Greek opposition.

    Simitis will be accompanied to Tirane by Foreign Minister Jorgos Papandreou, Minister of Press Dimitris Repas and Deputy Minister for National Economy and Public Affairs Rodhula Zisi.

    The Greek Prime Minister and his ministers are expected to sign two protocols with the Albanian side. /y.pa/lm/

    [09] U.S. embassy organises activity for Tirane orphans

    TIRANE, August 21 (ATA)-By I. Luto, U.S. embassy organised an entertainment activity for the capital's orphans, at the U.S. embassy in Tirane on Saturday.

    U.S. Deputy ambassador in Tirane Ray Snider, who played together with the orphan children in the yard of the U.S. embassy, said that this was neither a formal initiative nor a publicity on our activity, but only an opinion of the U.S. Army marines, who have long since been on guard at the embassy.

    The children of the capital's orphanage for several hours played and talked with the personnel of the diplomatic service, who exploited this weekend not only to entertain the children, in a gesture of beneficence, but also to spend moments of relax with the purity of the orphans' nature. /y.pa/lm/

    [10] AFOR to begin new role in Albania in September

    TIRANE, August 21 (ATA)-Beginning with September 1, the international security force to Albania, known as AFOR, will resume a new role as a supporting and logistic unit.

    According to the Ministry of Information, the new force, 2500 strong, under the name Western Zone of Communication, will maintain the supply route between the western port of Durres and the Kosova border.

    This force will no more operate as a support for humanitarian agencies but will continue to carry out works on infrastructure, including road repair from Durres to Kukes and the access road to the national airport of Rinas in Tirane. /a.ke/lm/
