The meeting also discussed the situation in the region and the bilateral and multilateral efforts to prevent the aggravation of the status quo, mainly due to the situation in Kosova. Premier Nano expressed the concern of the Albanian government because, as the international community is showing its engagement on the consequent treatment of this crisis, the parties in the conflict are not moving forward to the way of dialogue and the Serbian party is to be blamed for this, because it is trying to gain time through any kind of maneuvers and by claiming that this is an internal affair of Serbia. At the time when we, the Albanians, are respecting the engagements we have taken not to allow the traffic of arms in our border, we notice with concern that the situation in Drenice and Decan has been aggravated and it can escalate a conflict with big dimensions. The Greek Minister of Defence, after appreciating the constructive cooperation of the armed forces between the two countries, expressed the viewpoint of the Greek government regarding the situation in the region and mainly in Kosova, by considering it as the last problem remained from the dissolution of the Yugoslav Federation. "We are against terrorism, against use of violence in these moments when all the countries of the zone are increasing the efforts for the integration into the civilized Europe, but we cannot accept the existence of a wide region in the center of the Balkans, where the population does not enjoy the civil and human rights and lives in poverty," said Tsohatzopoulos. "The Kosova issue is not an internal problem of Serbia even for the fact that the consequences can affect all the countries of the region in case a conflict breaks out," he stressed. During the meeting were discussed other topics at mutual interest such as boosting of cooperation between the defence structures of both countries, the coordination of information regarding the establishment of a Balkan multinational force to prevent the conflicts and others. /s.sh/mt/ From the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) Home Page at http://www.telpress.it/ataAlbanian Telegraphic Agency Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
